Heroes and Villains have always dominated the study of History. In this talk Michael asks the question, are there actually heroes and villains in the past? He will be focusing on one individual in particular; Oliver Cromwell, and explore why he is such a polarized person, a hero to some and a villain to others. Cromwell’s life as Lord Protector, political reformer, a devout Christian and a military general all make this character an extremely complex one. Through this, Michael will demonstrate that History is always a bit more complicated than it may seem.
This talk will be a panel and so we hope to discuss other figures in history, feel free to bring along any historical figures that you find particularly interesting or challenging.
