The early twentieth century saw a phenomenon of Historical Pageants.  Beginning in 1905 and carrying on throughout the century, these pageants were an expression of local and national pride.

This talk will focus in on the Colchester Pageant and explore the different histories that were performed in 1909.  It will also consider its legacy in the town.  In doing so, this talk will show how important local history was for towns and cities in the Edwardian age.
