The Second World War: A Visual Tour Through Paintings

Wednesday 10 November 2021

14:00 and 19:00

James Jefferies and Louise Rodwell

After previously talking about First World War art, Louise Rodwell and James Jefferies will look at the influence of paintings on the memory of the Second World War. From familiar examples to those shining light onto lesser known theatres, this talk will highlight examples from each year of the war and, as well as discussing the images, will also examine the context of the events being reflected. From the skies over southern England to the jungles of Burma and icy seas in the North Atlantic, this is a visionary tour of the Second World War unlike any other.
