Wednesday 27 October 2021

Steven Bishop

PLEASE NOTE: The time of this talk has been changed to 2PM

In 1806 Jane Taylor penned “The Star” from her bedroom on West Stockwell Street, Colchester. This poem would later be known as “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”, becoming one of the most loved nursery rhymes in the world.

In this talk, historian Steven Bishop will be joined by High Steward of Colchester Sir Bob Russell to talk about the history of the nursery rhyme and the lives of Jane and her sister Ann (also a poet), before detailing the current campaign to erect a statue of the sisters in Colchester.
