Who was Margaret of Wessex/Scotland?

Steven Bishop

In the wake of the Norman Conquest of England, those looking to resist William’s rule pinned their hopes at times on the last remaining son of the line of Wessex, Edgar Ætheling. Little did they know that it would be through Edgar’s sister, Margaret, that Wessex would once again produce English monarchs that continues to this very day.

In this talk held on Margaret’s feast day, historian Steven Bishop will continue his women of pre-Conquest England series by examining the life of this remarkable woman, who spent her childhood in Hungary, became venerated as a saint of Scotland and bore a daughter who married Henry I, restoring the house of Wessex to the English royal bloodline.
